South West of England
A large painting produced in the field and then dragged back to the studio to rework and reworked again. I started it in the early months of 2022 as lockdown was doing its thing. I was teaching at the time and as students were being taught on line (or not depending on whether they logged in) I had lots of time to look out of the studio window and use my time productively.

Study of the hills out on the Mendips. Storm brewing to the East.
Acrylic / Pastel On Watercolour paper 2005 . Made on a decent sheet of heavy watercolor paper. I applied a ground of gesso and ocher . It allowed for a raised irregular impasto surface to work onto. Acrylic and pastel... i've been avoiding pastel as it is quite unpredictable in the field but it behaved and worked well with the loose acrylic. It was fun to make but there was something amiss compositional speaking for the Wells Cathedral show I bit the bullet and cropped it (as i have done subsequently with a number paintings I felt unresolved) mostly to good effect.
